New netlabel release on Stasisfield: Elementals

I am very happy to announce a new release called "Elementals" on the Stasisfield netlabel. John Kannenberg has done the beautiful job of design, packaging and presentation that Statisfield followers have come to expect, and I am grateful to part of his roster.In John's words:"Peterborough, New Hampshire's Dave Seidel offers a microtonal ode to the four primal elements. Water, fire, earth and air are represented here by elegant synthetic sounds and digitally manipulated field recordings. Working primarily in Csound, Seidel sculpts swathing drones and digital flutters into monolithic representations of his natural subjects. Technicians will undoubtedly consult Seidel's notes included in the album's digital packaging as well as the more extensive essays on his personal website for details of these tracks' construction, while aesthetes will simply lose themselves in their overwhelming beauty."

sehr erfrischender Zugang zum esoterisch etwas besetzen Thema...Die vielen praktischen Tipps und deine spontanten Einfälle, den Verstand zu überlisten, fand ich sehr gut....Hilfsansätze immer auf mehreren Wegen angeboten...persönliches Eingehen auf einzelne und auf Fragen...super Hörbeispiele, Vielfalt der Übungen...Ein super Workshop, beim nächsten werd ich wieder dabeisein!...Humor der Vortragenden...lockere, fachliche Vermittlung, Spaß und Technik...spielerischer Umgang mit dem Thema, erste Erfolge beim Hören und Singen - sehr zu empfehlen!...Es hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Ich nehme wertvolle Anregungen für meine Stimme mit.Einsingen, Stimmbildung, Atmosphäre des Seminars und fachliche Kompetenz fand ich sehr gut.

Vibrational Healing & Tibetan Dharma

Mysterious and singular the ancient Himalayan cultures created enigmatic instruments for the propose of inducing physical healing, spiritual consciousness and mental clarity.Their creations are an alchemy of metal and sacred geometry known today as Tibetan Singing Bowls, Gantas/Vajras, Tingshaws and Gong. The iron used is known as the ‘Thunderbolts of God’ and is of principle importance due to its' sacred origins as meteorite deposits found among the summits of the Himalayan mountain range.They are dynastic tools that reduce stress, induce chakra balancing, vitality synchronization and spontaneous healing. A Harmonic Summer with the Harmonic Presence

I met David last year in Prague at the Overtone Festival in Prague. I can't describe all impressions here but this harmonic meeting was really stunning. David gaves us his teachings about harmonic presence and awareness and since last year I am checking out his website www.harmonicworld.com to be informed about his schedule.
I'm writing this blog post to let you know about the activities this summer of David Hykes, whose Harmonic Presence Foundation has been developing the integral overtone music system called Harmonic Chant since 1975, the year he found The Harmonic Choir in New York. This contemporary sacred sound lineage represents a comprehensive experience of both western and eastern approaches to sound, contemplative music, and healing sounds which has benefitted by David's 34 years of experience studying traditions of mind, music, meditation and the medicine of healing harmonization. Der Pfarrer meinte: Wo kommen nur all diese Leute her?Über 150 Personen fanden sich zu unserem ersten Obertonauftritt in Wien ein.Ich war fast überwältigt: mein Traum, aus den Zirkuskunststücken Musik zu machen, richtige Kompositionen, die auch wiederholt ihren Zauber nicht verlieren, ist in Erfüllung gegangen.Sowohl die analytischen Musikerohren als auch Leute, die einfach mit der Musik abheben wollten, sind auf ihre Rechnung gekommen.Hier ein paar Rückmeldungen:Das Konzert war super und sehr beeindruckend!! Kompliment auch an deine Kusine, sie hat eine sehr schöne Stimme!This was WONDERFUL...This music must be recorded and marketed for HEALING purposes. You are just great! Thanks for letting us in on this marvelous experience!Das Konzert war einfach wunderschön. Ich hab jetzt noch eine Gänsehaut...Du hast mich verzaubert. Danke!Ich war wie in einer anderen Welt. Unglaublich.Wollte dir nochmals zu eurem Konzert gratulieren. Ich habe den Obertongesang ja zum ersten mal gehört und ich war vor allem von der Intensität der Töne beeindruckt. Einen Tag nach dem die CD 2008 aus der Fertigung kam, kamen die ersten Schreckensmeldungen aus Lhasa. Auch nach diesem vergangenen Jahr braucht Tibet weiterhin unsere Unterstützung. Ich hoffe dass diese CD hilft, die Sympathie für Tibet in der Welt zu stärken und damit einhergehend auch dazu beiträgt, das Verhältnis von China und Tibet zu heilen.

»Healing-Buddha Oratory - a lovesong for Tibet« - entstand aus der konzertanten Fassung zentraler Mantren des Buddhismus unter dem Arbeitstitel »Tibetzyklus«.
Anita Holtmann schrieb in ihrem Sabbatjahr Melodien für vierstimmigen Chor zu den Mantren Om Mani Peme Hung, Om Tare Tam Soha und Gate Gate Paragate. Christian Bollmannn lernte etwa zur gleichen Zeit über Jutta Reichardt und Yesche Udo Regel das Medizin-Buddha Ritual kennen und erhielt eine Einweihung in den Gebrauch des Mantras von Lama Phuntsok im Kamalashila Institut, die ihn zu der musikalischen Bearbeitung des Mantras inspirierte. Aus der intensiven Arbeit mit dem Obertonchor und weiteren Musikern entstand unter der Leitung von Christian Bollmann die Komposition des Mantrischen Oratoriums, einem Klangritual für westliche Ohren.

»Klangenergetische Spannungsfelder und rhythmische Entschleunigung gehen eine Symbiose ein. Allein diese Gefühle waren es, die die Melodien zu den Mantren entstehen ließen. Damit verbunden war auch die Hoffnung, in der Andersartigkeit meiner Vertonung, der westlichen Welt einen Zugang zum Verständnis der tibetischen Kultur zu erleichtern, ohne dabei das religiöse Empfinden dieser Völker zu verletzen.« Anita Anjana Holtmann

It seems over the last few years that I have been growing a voice. Meditation inspired me to do the Om mantra, and over the past few years there have been so many unexpected pleasant surprises. Aside from healing my mind, the AUM mantra has transformed my body. My voice has changed so much that I am astonished. Aside from all of the miracles that come with the path of yoga, a wish was granted to me. It is something I've wanted since I was a little boy. I can sing! The wish has come true but not only can I sing but I have the gift of helping others learn how to sing. As a western man, this rapid transformation has no context to be understood or accepted by society. And that is okay, because I am a child at heart and the toys I play with by myself are miracles.

unser (gerhard narbeshuber und julia renöckl) erstes obertonkonzert in wels (oberösterreich) ist mit großem beifall und vielen begeisterten zuhörern über die bühne gegangen.wir haben 3 stücke a cappella gesungen. und eine zugabe mit shrutibox.demnächst (wenn ich es schaffe) werde ich euch ein stück zum reinhören bereitstellen.das feedback unseres veranstalters:DANKE für das wunderbare konzert.habe bereits zahlreiche begeisterte rückmeldungen bekommen.es war alles wunderbar. ganz besonders auch der auftritt beim altarbescheiden sitzend, für alle sichtbar, sonst hätte das niemand geglaubt.. .. .für mich selbst war es ein konzert mit langzeitwirkung

Bach's St Matthew Passion ...and still magic

It's not overtone singing, but I love this piece. It is an important part of my musical background and it gives light on who we are, how we developed our society. I stood in for somebody at short notice, joint the rehearsal today. I don't know how often I performed J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion in the last 30 years, 30 - 40 times? As highlights I remember the Israel tour with Seeliger (where our bus was attacked and I later faced a bomb attack without injuries), Paris with Helmut Rilling (Tenor Peter Schreier), Spain tour and Canarian Islands with Peter Neumann (Tenor Christoph Prégardien, first class hotels, getting up at 5 a.m. to catch the next flights), Venice Theatre Mendelssohns romantic version (we went through the Venice night and experienced the most amazing marine phosphorescence on the Lido), all back in the 80's.

I know every note by heart. And still this unbelievable piece of magic astonishes me. How could someone have written such modern music 300 years ago? Almost jazz, until today deeply touching? No wonders that it was played again only in the Romanticism, constant and since this. Also fascinating how my spiritual attitude has changed to the text over the years. Never the less this music went deeply into my heart and still gives me goose pimples of joy.

If you have the chance to visit a concert, go and listen to Bach's St Matthew Passion. It's easy to find performances in the next few days. Those who want to listen our performances have to travel the Netherlands www.studiumchorale.nl.

My book is finally out

I'm happy to announce that my book "On the Physiology of Voice Production in South-Siberian Throat Singing – Analysis of Acoustic and Electrophysiological Evidences" is out now.

It took me really a long while . I actually started working on it in 2000 as my PhD project. Then of course - as many of you perhaps also know - there came other jobs, duties, projects. And finally I had to rush since in order to get a particular job I needed to finish and submit. This was in May 2005. And then after defense and other projects I finally thought about turning it into a real book, rather than publishing online. The formating along the way took me almost another year. Now it's done. I'm happy about this fact but not too much about the book itself. There are still a lot of things remaining which should have gone into it.

So please don't be too disappointed.

Sven Grawunder, PhD, phonetician and scientist from Max Planck Society Leipzig, published a very recommendable scientific book on Siberian throat singing. It's the most sophisticated and comprehensive disquisition on the topic I found until now.

OBERTONKURSE IN GRAZ UND WIEN

meine OBERTONKURSE IN GRAZ (Verbesserung des Chorklangs durch Obertonwahrnehmung und Steuerung in der eigenen Stimme) UND IN WIEN (Anfänger Obertongesangstechniken)...sind super verlaufen.hier ein paar rückmeldungen der teilnehmerInnen:TEILNEHMERINNEN und TEILNEHMER - STIMMEN WORKSHOP GRAZ MÄRZ 2009Ich habe vor dem Workshop ein paar Sachen gehofft; ich wollte für unseren Chor (und ein paar bestimmteMitglieder) eine Möglichkeit haben den gemeinsamen Klang zu verbessern und der eigenen Stimme zuarbeiten. Für mich selber wollte ich erreichen, daß die viertel-bis halboffene Schachtel endlich aufgeht.Der Workshop hat alle meine Hoffnungen erfüllt, ich selber bin mir endlich sicher, was ich höre,die Chormitglieder sind wirklich begeistert und in einem totalen Obertonhigh.

Ich bin durch diesen Workshop in eine völlig neue Welt eingetaucht. Jetzt, nach dem Kurs ist es mirschleierhaft warum ich diese Töne nie gehört habe. Julia hat uns kompetent und mit Humor die Obertönenäher gebracht. Die abschließende Vorführung ihrer eigenen Oberton-Singkünste war beeindruckend, binimmer noch erstaunt dass es so was gibt...!!!

Durch den Workshop haben wir erfahren, dass Obertöne in der menschlichen Stimme nicht nurtheoretisch vorhanden, sondern auch bewusst wahrnehmbar sind. Es war faszinierend, plötzlich bei sichselbst und anderen Teilnehmern Klanganteile zu hören, die normalerweise im Kopf zu einem einzigenGrundton verschmelzen und z.B. als bestimmter Vokal interpretiert werden.

Der Workshop war für mich eine tolle Sache und für alle weiter zu empfehlen,die etwas in Richtung Stimm- oder Gehörbildung machen wollen!

bezüglich Obertonworkshop kann ich sagen, dass es mir nachkleinen "Ladehemmungen" (bzw. Whoopie Goldberg-Effekt) sehr gutgefallen hat und das Klangerlebnis einfach genial war.

Sehr nett und kompetent vorgetragen!Negativ:- Ich hab das ganze Wochenende meine Nachbarn gequält, weil ich vor lauter Begeisterungdauernd in meiner Wohnung gesungen habe. ;)

Ich wusste vorher nur was Obertöne sind, nicht wie sie sich anhören undanfühlen können.Das Seminar hat mir im wahrsten Sinn des Wortes die Ohren geöffnet, beimChorsingen kann ich jetzt selbst ein wenig an meiner Sprachverständlichkeitarbeiten.

...Auch hier war es faszinierend, wie man das- einem bekannte - Lied verändert, nur wenn man versuchtdie Obertöne zu verändern. Eine ganz andere Offenbarung war wiederum das was die anderen sangen.Bei manchen konnte ich nur sagen: wow! Welche Stimme!!!!...Hier begann für mich ein neues Klangerlebnis: Ich hörte einenneuen Ton, ein Ton der über allen anderen schwebt. ziemlich metallisch schrill aber auch wunderbarklar. Wie ein Stern....Ich merkte nun auch, dass ich immer sicherer wurde. Auch beim selber singen....Auf einmal entstand ein Ton der den grundton überstrahlte.DAS war faszinierend. Einen neuen Ton zu fabrizieren, den man noch nie von sich gab....Auch wenn wir nicht Obertöne singen lernten sondern nur einfach hineinschnupperten. Es hatte etwasmystisches....Als jedoch Julia uns als Zugabe zeigte, wie sie sang und das in dieser obertonverstärkenden Kirchewurde ich wieder klein, da klang ihre Stimme so außerirdisch fremd und schön.Die Flamme ist entzündet. Und nun muß mein Auto aus Shrutibox herhalten.

New workshop series and choir

Kiva has been signed with the Prague Overtone Festival organization to teach a series of workshops throughout 2009 titled 'Vocal Freedom through Overtone Mastery'. The opening event took place on Feb 13-14 with showcase concerts and lectures. 2009 marks the first year that year-round activities will take place in the form of intensive workshop weekends. She will also be forming her own overtone choir with original compositions and experimental works. There will be approximately 14 rehearsals, with the goal of public performance in the autumn. Although the choir is not directly affiliated with Prague Overtone Festival, participation in the workshop weekends is recommended for those new to overtone singing. Separate private lessons may also be arranged.The first workshop for the series begins March 27, 6-9 pm.The first choir rehearsal is April 8. Our friend Raffaello Regoli is the manager of 13™ Review of Different Music "Homage to Demetrio Stratos" Review of Emergent Rock-Underground Groups Initially, at the 30 anniversary of the death of Demetrio Stratos, the review aimed to observe a year of silence to not exploit the memory of this artist.
