Overtone Music Network

a common space & database for harmonic overtones

Dear Overtone Singers around the world,

You are invitated to submit excerpts of your overtone singing and
BECOME PART OF HARMONIC HISTORY.

You can be one of many stars of a compilation DVD devoted to harmonic singing, overtone singing, undertone singing and throat singing.

This dvd is currently being compiled featuring multiple excerpts of people overtone singing. It is hoped that many of the world's best overtone singers will be featured in this.

This DVD will be given away as an insert with every sale of a new book soon to be published: the Bonsai Book of Overtone Singing.

Already a number of 10-15 seconds excerpts have been compiled - all with permission.

It will be assumed that those who submit their video excerpts are giving their approval to be featured on the DVD. Please note that there will be no royalties payable to contributors.

Guidelines:
MP4 format is acceptable. People are invited to make a number of submissions. It is recommended 15-20 seconds per item. Most submissions will be solo efforts, but group efforts will be accepted.
Please email submissions to magicsounds@mac.com and please don't wait too long before sending.

Hi, Dean,

I missed the boat on this one! I've only just discovered and joined the site. I'm also a rank amateur with a strong interest in the Gyuto chanting technique rather than a broad musical perspective. I haven't got any sample recordings of my own sound to link from the site yet but I suppose I should put something up soon.

Anyway, Jens Mügge mentioned you so I thought I'd just say hello.

Cheers,

V.
Hi Vicki, Welcome to OMN and our terrific collection of sound explorers. Like you I also find the Gyuto chanting is one of many highlights. I can speak very highly of Jens who is responsible for all of this and many others on the network. In what country do you do most of your singing?

Best, Dean
Hi, Dean,

I used to have a life (before I became a long-term single-parent) and in those days the countries were mostly India and Nepal (near Tibetan refugee communities).

For the last couple of decades it's only been in Australia and mostly in the shower! ;-)

Though I don't class myself as a musician I'm still looking for an outlet: some opportunities to do some chanting rather than have it go to waste, so to speak, especially as my boys are getting old and the empty nest seems not too far away.

Cheers,

V.
Where in Australia?
It's on my profile. Sydney.

I believe you're in Melbourne. I don't travel much. Do you get up to Sydney at all?

We could always have a Skype chat and chant-fest, if meeting in person proves difficult.
Sorry I hadn't looked yet at your profile. I do come to Sydney every so often (twice this year for day trips) but Skype sounds good. My Skype name is the slightly embarassingly named (ambientvoice). If you had been in Melbourne I was going to suggest you visit
our weekly overtone sessions. I'm building a Sydney database for an eventual workshop/concert- I'm aware there's not much throat singing in Sydney... yet.
"... aware there's not much throat singing in Sydney... yet..."
I get the impression it's just me! But maybe I'm wrong. I'd like to be wrong. It would be nice to have some company.

I don't get around much (heading to Qld for Christmas, but that's where the extended family are based). Went to Melbourne earlier this year (just for the day) but don't anticipate another visit.

So until you come up to Sydney, Skype sounds like the best way to demo and discuss sounds and the making thereof. I hope I'm not classed as a heretic when I say I'm not too keen on the overtone (head) sound. I'm pretty much a died-in-the-wool Gyuto enthusiast.

I'll add you as a Skype contact.

Talk soon,

V.
No you're definitely not a heretic. Tonal practices of many sorts are precious (to me).
I do practice and explore various different ways of undertones though I do spend more focus on the different ways of overtoning. Look forward to meeting on Skype.

Best, Dean
Hi guys,

that's old topic but I am new in Sydney, so maybe we could do something at some point.
Met the other week a Mongolian, really good throat singer. Was singing on a street in Newtown.

Cheers
Iza
