Profile Information

About me:
Sound has been his medium of choice, both consciously and casually, for healing and empowerment for over
3 decades. He has “gleaned” a great deal from, and studied with Richard Hite, Iasos, Yogi Bhajan, Ed Mann
and Michael Bettine. Dharam Singh brings this diverse and earthy perspective to the Kundalini Yoga community
that is further inspired by exposure to Native American Shamanism (lived with Rolling Thunder in ‘77),
Tibetan Buddhism (Initiated by the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa) and Reichian Body-centered Therapy. Hailing
from the Bronx, NYC, where, as a child in the 60s one could hear, on any given summer night, the rich rhythms
and chants of Africa brought by immigrants from Cuba and the Caribbean blending with the sounds of Motown,
R&B, and Jazz. Years later, as Hip Hop culture would emerge, he witnessed the role music and dance could
serve, not only as a form of expression, but as a pressure relief valve for tensions.......a curious exercise in
Pratyahara, if you like. In the words of Bob Marley, “One good thing about music,.... when it hits you feel no
pain”. Somewhere in this rich Sound Current Dharam would find a refuge, and from that place was born a
wonder and a curious passion for the transformative and healing power of sound. Listening was, in itself, rich
but he wanted to, through sharing it, be a healing and purifying influence. At any given gathering he would be
found at the stereo creating or adjusting the mood. He would then spend 10 years doing radio with NPR in
Fairbanks, AK, further whetting his appetite and expanding his knowledge and experience of an extremely wide
range of music from many different cultures. During this time he made several trips back to NYC, and would
come to find a “home” with the Alternative Center of Arts, now known as the Alternative Museum. This passion
has found its place in the healing art and sacred science of the Gong as a tool for vibrational transformation.
Now, having walked the path of Sikh Dharma, with Yogi Bhajan, for more than 30 years he has come to more
fully understand that sound and energy IS the essence of the order of everything and that if a person can
find peace and wellness through simply laying down, relaxing and listening, then who is he to deny them, what
he himself considers his refuge?
