About me:

I am currently a grad student at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, USA, pursuing an MA in ethnomusicology with a focus on Mongolian music and an interest in nomadic musics in general. Before ever contemplating becoming an "ethnomusicologist" I lived in Mongolia for two years learning xoomi and performing in traditional and non-traditional music contexts. There, I collaborated with Altan Urag, played at the Roaring Hooves Festival, with Steve Tromans and the U-Bop jazz trio, even a short-lived death metal band. I also have a particular interest in the tsuur.

Instruments:

Contrabass, guitar, tsuur, some dombra.

Influences:

Learned xoomi/overtone singing in Mongolia with Enkhjargal (the flute player of Tumbash, not the morin khuurch) then under Ganbold, followed by some lessons with Hosoo. Otherwise, as usual, there are too many to list. But they have ranged from Chopin to Mingus to my friends.
